MPA Finance: First Steps for Marine Managers

Marine protected areas (MPAs) are vital for conserving and restoring marine ecosystems while providing significant co-benefits to nearby communities, such as improved fisheries management, enhanced tourism, and stronger coastal resilience.

However, securing long-term funding for MPAs remains a challenge. To help managers and planners navigate MPA finance opportunities, the Reef Resilience Network, in partnership with the Blue Nature Alliance, developed a new MPA Finance Toolkit.

This webinar will introduce the toolkit and offer practical steps for exploring financing options. Allen Cedras, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA), will share real-world insights into MPA financing, discussing SPGA’s financial evolution, its transition from a government entity to a public-private enterprise, and its user fee system.

The one-hour webinar will include presentations followed by an open Q&A session, with a recording available on the Reef Resilience Network website and YouTube channel.
