Orsted aims to create a world powered entirely by green energy. In addition to providing renewable energy solutions, the company is also growing coral reefs to support environmental sustainability.
Orsted develops and constructs renewable energy projects worldwide to help transition to a zero-carbon economy. It is also working on growing coral reefs on the seabed foundations of its wind turbines, recognizing that coral reefs support biodiversity and sustain over 500 million people globally.
The ReCoral Project: Through ReCoral, Orsted is stimulating coral growth at offshore wind farms to reduce the risk of coral bleaching near wind turbines. Wind energy emits 99% fewer greenhouse gases than coal power, and Orsted aims to achieve a net-positive impact on biodiversity in all its new projects.
The foundations of offshore wind turbines create a suitable environment for corals to thrive—receiving sufficient sunlight while avoiding extreme heat. Orsted only collects surplus coral egg bundles from shorelines, ensuring that no existing ecosystems are disrupted.
Offshore Wind & Green Energy Transition: Orsted is a leader in offshore wind energy, constructing and operating wind farms in Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, the US, and Taiwan. Thanks to its innovative technology, offshore wind now generates electricity at a lower cost than fossil fuels in Northwest Europe.
