Bayside Cooperative Society
Bayside Cooperative Society is well-positioned to leverage the Blue Accelerator Program to serve as a model for responsible fisheries in PNG
Bayside Cooperative Society is strengthening the small‑scale fisheries value chain in Milne Bay by installing a solar‑powered cold‑storage and ice facility with a simple processing/holding shed that serves as a central buying point. The facility will chill landings and produce ice for local fishers, cutting spoilage, stabilising prices, and improving product quality. Paired with basic handling protocols and record‑keeping—and with women’s participation in processing and sales—the Bayside Cooperative Society can consistently supply schools, shops, and other local buyers. By reducing waste per catch and enabling more order‑based sales, the solution raises fishers' incomes while easing pressure on nearby reefs.
