Centre for Sustainable Blue Economy Innovation
The Centre for Sustainable Blue Economy Innovation will provide business incubation for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with attention to women-run business and youth opportunities in Aqaba.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was involved in a Blue Economy symposium held in Aqaba, Jordan, on May 27-28, 2024, which focused on sustainable development of ocean resources and environmental preservation. Co-organized with the European Union, UNEP and others, the symposium discussed strategies for preserving and enhancing marine biodiversity, promoting nature-based solutions, and fostering economic opportunities within Aqaba's coastal region.
During the summer of 2025, a national consultant was appointed to develop the overall framework for the Blue Economy Center in Aqaba, through which the vision, mission, and general objectives were defined, along with the preparation of the business plan and other related activities. In addition, a decision was made to form a national team to prepare Jordan’s National Blue Economy Strategy, and an international consultant will be engaged to support the development of this strategy. At the same time, ASEZA is currently reviewing and updating its Environmental Protection Bylaw, within which the Blue Economy concept will be formally integrated.
