Coral Reefs Restoration

Coral Maker is a nature tech startup in coral reef restoration technology.

Coral Maker uses robotics and manufacturing technology for a large-scale approach to reef restoration and reef installation.

The company mass-produces pre-made stone coral skeletons, which reduces the amount of time corals must spend growing their skeletons to adult size. Coral Maker's automated manufacturing system can be set up near to the restoration site for on-site production using local natural aggregate mixes.

The process enables the quick and inexpensive manufacturing of 10,000 skeletons each day, each of which may accommodate 6-8 coral fragments. By utilizing recycled stone waste from the construction industry and enabling close-by local manufacturing of the items, the company significantly lowers transportation emissions.

The prefabricated skeletons are then sown with coral fragments. The manual procedure of propagating coral involves repetitive work.

The automation of any repetitive manual activities is necessary for the large-scale processing of coral at a rate of millions to tens of millions per year, just like with the mass production of any product. Our technology uses robotics and artificial intelligence to automate coral propagation.

The onsite implementation of these automated devices at the repair site is their design goal. Additionally, they are made to cooperate with people, freeing up people to perform more difficult tasks. Coral Maker was awarded the 2021 Autodesk Excellence Award for ‘Making a Better World’.
