Coral Reef Aquaculture for Resilience and Aquarium Trade
This solution supports the expansion of reef aquaculture activities in Port Ghalib to cultivate species such as corals and sea cucumbers for restoration and sustainable supply.
Building on existing facilities operated by Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Agency (HEPCA) - a Non-Governmental Organization that works primarily with marine and land conservation in the Red Sea Governorate in Egypt - the solution focuses on producing reef species for reef restoration efforts and for the aquarium trade through captive-bred alternatives, helping reduce pressure on wild populations.
By linking restoration and sustainable production, the solution contributes to reef recovery, supports biodiversity, and creates local economic opportunities connected to aquaculture along Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
