Sustainable Ocean Production
Coral Reef Aquaculture for Resilience and Aquarium Trade
Cultivating reef species, including corals and sea cucumbers, for release into natural habitats
This solution focuses on cultivating reef species, including corals and sea cucumbers, for release into natural habitats. The Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in 1992 and official registered in 1995. This non-profit association is devoted to the protection and conservation of marine life and the underwater environment in the Red Sea. This solution will expand HEPCA’s existing facility in Port Ghalib, aiming to replenish coral ecosystems while generating local employment and sustainable revenue. The project will also address aquarium trade pressures by providing captive-bred species, ultimately enhancing coral reef resilience and biodiversity.
