Coral Reefs Restoration

Counting Coral's goal is to restore and protect coral reefs from further damage.

The company aims to further its goal through engineering, art, education, and fundraising. Counting Coral is developing Sculptural Coral Banks.

These are structures designed to help propagate corals and reef systems by planting them with climate resistant corals and allowing them to grow to maturity.

This technique of coral propagation is largely scalable, meaning many corals can be grown and many artificial reefs can eventually be formed with the hopes of supporting the global coral population.

Benefits of these sculptural coral banks include:

  • Allows for natural propagation and then harvesting, where fragments can be planted into other nurseries or damaged reefs Gives restaurants, hoteliers and divers new marketing opportunities and added revenue Gives marine biologists and other scientists a study site for research Increases awareness for coral protection Sculptural installations help decrease diver traffic away from reef systems
