Ecologistic

Ecologistic, a social enterprise created by NGO Alak Bacalar, manages municipal solid waste in Bacalar and Chetumal, offering integrated services to hotels and restaurants to reduce pollution. Its operations include waste collection, recycling, macro-compost production, and clean-up activities in the Bacalar lagoon and surrounding ecosystems. The company recently obtained permits to develop waste-management projects at the Cozumel landfill. Compost is sold to hotels, restaurants, and local farmers, with part donated to “Sembrando Vida” and the Mennonite community, while inorganic recyclables are sold to recovery centers. Ecologistic also provides environmental workshops, business training, and monthly lagoon clean-ups to promote Zero Waste practices. Its revenue comes from service fees, recyclable sales, and compost commercialization.
