Global Fisheries Sustainability Fund
The Global Fisheries Sustainable Fund is a fund created to promote small-scale fisheries in the Global South to take steps towards sustainability. The fund is supported through Marine Stewardship Council’s Ocean Stewardship Fund.
Marine Stewardship Council is a non-profit organization started in 1997 intending to safeguard seafood supplies and protect oceans at large. They fund various research projects to attain their goal of ocean security and longevity. The Global Fisheries Sustainability Fund has supported up to eleven projects till today.
These projects are for fisheries and small-scale fisheries from around the world, allowing them to grow sustainably. In the process, they fund the generation of new science while protecting the environment and the livelihood of the local communities living in the respective coastal areas.
Some of the resultant project achievements are ESOS Research Centre’s attempts to safeguard Chilean stone crab, WWF Japan’s work towards Conserving migratory bird habitats in the Yellow Sea among many others.
