Unsustainable Tourism

The Great Fringing Reef Mooring Systems upgrade focuses on installing and upgrading mooring infrastructure at priority sites along Egypt’s Red Sea coast to reduce anchor damage in high-use tourism areas.

The solution builds on existing mooring systems developed and managed by the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA), expanding coverage and strengthening management to ensure sustained use across key reef sites.

By reducing direct physical pressure from anchoring while maintaining access for tourism activities, the solution supports more sustainable use of reef areas and contributes to the protection of the Great Fringing Reef.
