Implementation of a Material Recovery and Recycling Center in Providencia and Santa Catalina Islands
Through measures such as awareness-raising workshops in schools, door-to-door outreach, the installation of clearly labeled waste bins, the implementation of weekly collection routes, and public communication campaigns, this project seeks to prevent waste from reaching the sea. By doing so, it reduces the deterioration of coral reef ecosystems and contributes to the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of the archipelago.
By improving waste recovery and recycling processes, the initiative helps safeguard local ecosystems from ongoing degradation while making a significant contribution to conservation and protection efforts. In addition, the project supports job creation, improving the livelihoods and resilience of island households. It also enhances the archipelago’s circular economy, strengthens environmental education for young people, and creates an attractive eco-tourism initiative for both visitors and local residents committed to sustainability.
