Let's improve the reef by hunting lionfish in Providence and Ketlina Islands
A conservation project that protects native species by promoting the capture and consumption of invasive lionfish
This initiative focuses on conserving native species in Providencia and Santa Catalina by promoting the capture and consumption of the invasive lionfish (Pterois volitans), which has posed an environmental threat within the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve since 2008. With five years of experience in lionfish hunting and utilization, along with ten years of involvement in scientific research in the archipelago, the practice has proven effective. Providencia ranks third in the Caribbean for lionfish population density, highlighting the ecological importance of this intervention.
