Ocean Purpose Project (OPP) is a Pasir Ris-based social undertaking driving ocean protection and plastic contamination prevention by means of innovative and creative ventures with mass-scale impact.

OPP utilizes inventive technology that is yet to enter the Singapore market through various projects. The association collects plastics from the ocean and utilises them to make black carbon, carbon nanotubes and fuels like low-sulfur fuel and hydrogen fuel.

OPP tested a 100kg PTF unit in Medang Island, Indonesia in 2019. Islanders readily accepted the essential plastic-to-fuel machine that delivered 3 containers of fuel a day, driving generators and fishing boats.

The PTF model unit is fit to be worked with a mix of advancements from Germany and India with the hydrocarbon catch part to be introduced in Singapore post financing. It is also engaged in bioremediation in the marine ecosystem with the help of mussels and seaweed.

Seaweed acts as a carbon sink to offset carbon emissions. Using seaweed and mussel culture, the venture is producing an innovative biodegradable and marine-friendly bioplastic. OPP has taken an initiative to drive behaviour by instructing and engaging networks by working with community pioneers, giving ocean side cleanups, trainings and learning ventures for local pioneers.

Several other projects undertaken by the venture are focused on blue carbon, ocean conservation policy and campaigns, beach clean up events, coral reforestation and more.
