Reefscapers is a marine consultancy firm providing marine biology programs for island-based resorts through coastal protection, coral reef restoration, ornamental aquaculture, and sea turtle rehabilitation. It improves coral reef biodiversity and boosts coral cover using its proprietary coral frame techniques.

The approach entails long-term monitoring and maintenance throughout the entire process. Every donor is automatically notified when fresh images of their coral frame become available. The donors have access to all the scientific information about the coral frames.

How it works

The optimal environmental solution will be designed by the company to restore the house reef following an initial marine examination of the property.

The primary goals are to provide visitors with the option to transplant their own corals and to improve marine ecosystems over time. Programs for guests include ADOPTING a coral fragment as part of a crowd-funded community frame (online) and SPONSORING an entire coral frame (with dedication.) I

nterested visitors can work with the resort's marine biologist, who has received training from Reefscapers program experts, to construct their own coral frame.

For the purpose of facilitating the biannual monitoring to track coral growth rates and development, and identify the marine species sheltering in the structures, a special tag devoted to the sponsor is placed on each frame along with a number.

The company can determine which species are better adapted to specific conditions and which can adapt to warmer temperatures by regularly visiting frames.

Corals found damaged naturally by fish or storms or unintentionally by people are utilized for transplantation.

After two to three years, colonies on the frames are collected for fragments, negating the need to gather from the natural reef. The company has partnered with Four Seasons Resort Maldives, Amaya Kuda Rah, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, and Constance Hotels & Resorts among others.
