rrreefs
Rrreefs is sustainably and scientifically rebuilding coral reefs. This startup aims to restore the coral population by creating 3D printed, scientific, sustainable, and artistic coral reefs.
They have created innovative and modular brick structures from clay that can also serve as coastal protection barriers.
Their current 3D prototype is made from clay, a modular brick system kind of architecture. It can be arranged like Legos and allows any customizable reef shapes to be inserted into local environments.
Each surface is hollow and has a place for baby corals to settle within, grow and shelter them. They provide these tiny reef organisms adequate support, light, and protection from predators.
They also do not allow these tiny reefs to get choked by any suspended sand. Additionally, the hollow spaces provide habitats for other small creatures like crabs, fish, nudibranchs, and sea urchins that generally find shelter in reefs.Focusing on science and research, the team also wishes to experiment, investigate and build new prototypes through thorough success monitoring practices. Only those that are good for the fish and promote reef life will be approved.
The team is also constantly refining their knowledge and that of the community through 3D reef-building workshops. In these, more interested members can learn how to create these compositions from start to finish.
