Sanivation
Sanivation is a social enterprise that partners with local and national governments to enable waste to be safely managed. Their flagship product is waste-to-value treatment plants which collect and combine human waste with sustainable agricultural waste, turning this waste into briquettes to produce solid fuels to heat factories. The company operates in three countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, including in nine cities within Kenya. Their aim is to build sustainable sanitation solutions for cleaner, healthier, and more productive secondary cities.
In Malindi, Sanivation operates a waste-to-value business model in partnership with Malindi Waste and Sewerage Company (MAWASCO), a fully state-owned utility responsible for water and sanitation services in the Malindi-Watamu area.
Sanivation has has been identified during the pipeline-building phase for potential support by the GFCR Miamba Yetu programme. This support would allow Sanivation to replicate the approaches taken by in the Malindi-Watamu area to the new proposed Kenya-Tanzania Trans-boundary conservation area, to build and execute a sanitation plan for the new seascape.
