Seawater Solutions is an agri-environmental company based in Glasgow, Scotland. The company is helping vulnerable communities around the world build climate resilience through its Regenerative Seawater Agriculture (RAS) system. The RAS system involves turning deserts into wetland ecosystems by infusing seawater onto underutilized land using automated and renewable irrigation systems.

In 2021, the company launched the Blue Green Carbon Project to set up a worldwide network of wetland ecosystems without a single drop of fresh water and create integrated food supply chains to tackle climate change, including coastal erosion, carbon emissions, soil degradation and salinization.

Seawater Solutions' projects are in:

  • Ghana: The Saline Agriculture project aims to introduce a network of "Silvo" aquaculture sites and salt marshes along the coastline of Ghana that would reap benefits focused on carbon sequestration and mangrove reforestation.
  • Malawi: The Saline Agriculture for Climate Adaptation project involves the utilization of saline wells to irrigate fields, supply aquaculture ponds and grow salt-tolerant vegetables aimed at addressing issues like drought and land degradation to boost crop production.
  • Namibia: The Integrated Saline Agriculture and Dryland Agroforestry project focuses on incorporating dryland agroforestry, freshwater lenses, aquaculture, mangrove wetlands and saline agriculture into a single cycling system to tackle soil degradation and salinization in coastal sites. It also aims to address drought in inland farms through saline agriculture and regenerative farming.
  • Vietnam: The Developing the Halophyte Agriculture Sector project involves the establishment of a sector for halophyte crops and the integration of aquaculture systems with halophyte cultivation to provide new economic opportunities for farmers living in areas affected by sea-level rise. Seawater Solutions has other ongoing projects in Scotland, Bangladesh and Spain.

The company is also actively working with partners across academia, government and industry, such as the United Nations Development Programme and the World Food Programme.
