The WWF-Indonesia Foundation launched the Signing Blue initiative in order to manage and promote responsible marine tourism in the country.

Signing Blue focuses on protecting nature and empowering local communities to increase the country's marine tourism and ensure business sustainability.

In addition, this program would enable WWF-Indonesia to expand the sustainable fishing business and advocate best management practices through the business-to-business collaboration platform of Seafood Savers for fish companies or other businesses in order to help create healthy marine ecosystems in key marine protected areas (MPAs).

This initiative includes the Marine Tourism Improvement Program (MTIP), which aims to improve marine tourism and assist stakeholders, travelers, and tourism actors like restaurants, hotels, and tour guides. How does Signing Blue aim to organize responsible marine tourism? The program is composed of market participants, community activists, and WWF-Indonesia experts who will promote the idea of responsible tourism by sharing knowledge regarding responsible tourism developing responsible marine tourism standards spreading procedures for conducting fair environmental practices via Best Management Practices (BMP) and determining market opportunities for responsible marine tourism.

This initiative will concentrate on the establishment and management of MPAs as well as the reduction of threats to habitats and species in the Sunda Shelf Seascape, Inner Banda Arch Seascape, Lesser Sunda Seascapes, and Sulu Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME).

This will generate economic benefits for local businesses and communities through best management practices in the tourism and aquaculture sectors and market-based incentives to improve the management of MPAs and support sustainable livelihoods.

Signing Blue also supports the Indonesian government's commitment to Community Based Development (CBD) to have 30 million hectares of MPAs by 2030. WWF-Indonesia Foundation has formed several partnerships, such as the Green School Bali Foundation, Artotel Group, and Triptrus.com.
