Sustainable Ocean Production
Social Innovation in the Processing and Marketing of Reef Fisheries Products in Providencia and Santa Catalina Islands
A social innovation project that promotes sustainable fishing by adding value to low-demand reef species through community-led processing and commercialization
The project aims to promote the sustainable consumption of fishery resources of low economic importance through social innovation in their production and commercialization. The initiative is led by artisanal fishers from the Fishing And Farming Enterprise Cooperative, together with their families, and seeks to generate value-added products, such as processed fish products in various formats, that are more attractive to local and regional markets.
At the same time, the project promotes responsible and sustainable fishing practices, strengthening local livelihoods while contributing to the long-term conservation of coral reef ecosystems in Providencia and Santa Catalina Islands.
