Terminator Water Solutions
As part of the MAR+Invest initiative, GFCR has supported Terminator Water Solutions (TWS) through concessional financing managed by Viwala, enabling the company to scale its innovative wastewater treatment technologies. TWS specializes in decentralized, eco-friendly sanitation systems for individual households—such as its flagship product, the WOMBAT 1000—which aim to improve wastewater management in coastal communities. By addressing the issue of untreated domestic wastewater, which introduces excess nutrients that threaten coral reef health, TWS contributes directly to the protection of the Mesoamerican Reef and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
Selected for the 2024 Acceleration Programme, TWS benefits from a tailored support pipeline that includes environmental and social safeguards developed by Healthy Reefs for Healthy People and MAR Fund. With this backing, and alongside co-investment from private sector partners, TWS is positioned to expand its impact across the Mesoamerican region. Its work exemplifies how MAR+Invest, with GFCR's strategic support, leverages blended finance to unlock sustainable, scalable solutions for reef and community resilience.
