#tide ocean material
#tide ocean material® is a material resource made from upcycled ocean-bound plastic to help free the oceans from plastic waste.
The oceans are suffocating up to 10 million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year.
Most of the plastic is coming from land due to a lack of waste management and because the material is often considered worthless.
Tide Ocean SA (#tide) wants to change this perspective and give value to waste in two ways:
- First, through technology: In collaboration with the Swiss University of Applied Sciences #tide has developed a mechanical method to bring plastic waste back to life as a valuable material resource, fit to replace virgin plastic in many applications.
- Second, added value is created through social and environmental impact. #tide offers additional income to local waste pickers and fishermen in Southeast Asia and Mexico to collect the plastic. The plastic gets sorted and cleaned in social enterprises where more jobs are created and additional support is offered, such as housing, social security, and health insurance.
Environmental impact is created through clean-ups and prevention of further pollution.#tide is a Swiss company with offshoots in Southeast Asia and Mexico that has developed upcycling methods for marine plastics with the Swiss Institute for Materials Engineering and Plastics Processing.
The granulates, yarns, fibers and filaments made from #tide® ocean material are used in a wide variety of products and have been awarded numerous times. With its program «Road to 1 Billion Bottles», #tide® has set the goal of collecting the equivalent of one billion plastic bottles, re- and upcycling them and thus protecting the fauna and flora of the oceans.
