Plastic Fischer GmbH has developed the TrashBoom, which is a swimming barrier in order to intercept floating waste such as plastics from rivers.

The Trashboom is installed in the Citarum River in Bandung, Indonesia as a means to collect plastic waste before it enters the oceans. In addition, the barrier is made from locally available materials like PVC pipes, stainless steel, and galvanized steel wire mesh, thus reducing costs.

This product was also designed to help developing-country communities reduce their plastic waste. Its product is easy to maintain and doesn't require electricity to operate. The startup's barrier is also installed in India and Vietnam. How does Plastic Fischer GmbH reduce plastic waste? After the Trashboom collects the plastic waste, it is sorted. Finally, recyclable plastics are sold to local recycling companies while non-recyclables are transported to incineration facilities and undergo thermal recycling, in accordance with international best practices.

Plastic Fischer GmbH is supported by Allianz, KNIPEX, and Hund Hund, among others. It received several recognitions: it won the "GreenTech Challenge" in 2019, it became the "Indonesian Country Champion" at the 2019 GAIA Impact Challenge, it succeeded in the "Citeo Circular Challenge" in 2020, and it is the 2022 national winner of the James Dyson Award.
