UMITRON is a Singaporean and Japanese startup that attempts to leverage technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) to improve aquaculture yields.

The company developed its solutions to support the expanding aquaculture industry.

The startup offers these products: UMITRON Cell- a smart feeding system that can be installed in fish pens. It can be controlled remotely using computers or smartphones, and enables personnel to monitor feeding and reduce delivery of excess feeds which waste resources. UMITRON Eye- a camera system installed in fish pens to help aquaculture farmers see fish move in almost real-time.

This is helpful when determining the inventory and value of fish inside the pens for trade and insurance purposes. UMITRON FAI- this Fish Appetite Index (FAI) system uses image analysis and machine learning to determine the appetite of fish inside the fish pens. This helps farmers learn the best feeding time for the fish and how much feeds should be used per feeding session, leading to reduced feeding costs and reduced feeds turning into waste. UMITRON Pulse- this system allows aquaculture farmers to monitor water quality with the help of satellite data. This allows them to check details such as water temperature and weather forecasts for their pens and surrounding areas.

UMITRON Lens- this system uses cameras and artificial intelligence to measure fish for their size and weight without taking them out of the pens. This removes stress from the fish, leading to less losses. The data from the system is stored in the data cloud and can be accessed through smartphones. UMITRON has offices in Singapore and Japan, and has deployed its solutions to help several players in the Japanese aquaculture industry.
