Waste to Wealth – Washed-Up Seagrass into Organic Fertilizer is a community-led circular economy initiative in Meedhoo, Addu City that transforms washed-up seagrass and organic waste into high-quality organic fertilizer. By converting an underutilized natural resource into a marketable agricultural product, the project reduces shoreline pollution, decreases reliance on chemical fertilizers, promotes sustainable agriculture, and strengthens local livelihoods. The initiative includes establishment of a composting facility, capacity building for community members, seagrass conservation awareness campaigns, and market development for compost products. Through this integrated approach, the project improves environmental conditions for coral reefs and seagrass ecosystems while creating long-term economic opportunities for farmers, women, youth, and local businesses. The model demonstrates how nature-based solutions can generate sustainable economic value while protecting critical coastal and reef ecosystems
