Water Insight has developed a platform that uses satellite remote sensing to monitor coastal water environments. They now offer services such as monitoring eutrophication, turbidity, the abundance of seagrass and macroalgae, phytoplankton size classes, primary production, and harmful algae.

They also offer higher-level products such as indicators and integration with predictive models as well real-time reporting, early warning, environmental reporting, and historical analysis.

Water Insight started off as a collaboration between a consortium of academia and technology companies with expertise in water monitoring tools. To create tailored, cost-effective products, the project held talks with users from various sectors such as dredging companies, aquaculture businesses, and national monitoring institutes, among others.

Their technology can help determine food availability in a particular region, helping aquaculture farms determine an optimal location. The technology also helps dredging companies monitor turbidity of water as a result of their activities as well as help detect harmful algal blooms to support the design of mitigation strategies.
