Atlas of Ocean Wealth
The "Atlas of Ocean Wealth", a comprehensive synthesis by The Nature Conservancy, collates global data regarding coastal and marine ecosystems' economic, social, and cultural value.
The project amasses information from diverse sources, presenting over 35 innovative maps and articulating the location-specific value of marine resources and their potential. This effort quantifies the necessity of nature for humanity by highlighting numerous benefits, from fish production and tourism to water purification and coastal protection.
The Atlas clarifies that "ocean wealth" isn't uniformly distributed worldwide and reveals the importance of this knowledge for future ocean management.
The two-part Atlas first investigates the benefits natural ecosystems offer and then explores their application in marine resource management, economics, and environmental financing.
