Solution Overview

Kabilaso Business Group Inc is a women-centred cooperative located in Karapi, Hoskins, West New Britain Province dedicated to enhancing household food security and livelihoods through poultry and egg production. The group prioritises safe waste-management practices to protect local waterways. Supported by the BE‑EIF grant, Kabilaso Business Group Inc is professionalising its operations by upgrading to a purpose-built poultry shed, introducing layer hens to ensure a consistent egg supply, and implementing straightforward biosecurity and waste Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This approach provides an alternative protein source, which helps reduce fishing pressure on nearby reefs.

Who Benefits

The cooperative actively engages women and youth across village value-chains. Early documentation highlights a membership model in which women lead both poultry husbandry and seaweed activities, suggesting strong potential for inclusive growth as poultry operations scale.
